DO I NEED TO START A BLOG?

When I first began blogging in 2017, it was not a novel concept. Blogging has been a business for over a decade, but only in the last 5-7 years has it been fully recognized and legitimized. If you tell the ordinary Joe you want to be a blogger, they’ll probably think you’re talking about a pastime.

As a blogger, how do you make money? Isn’t blogging merely a way for folks to keep a journal? Why would you devote time to something that would simply be a hobby?

With over 500 million blogs worldwide, the content marketing sector is expected to be worth $400 billion by 2020. The vast majority of Pinterest users are unaware that all of their favorite pins, recipes, DIYs, fashion trends, and other items are actually linked to blogs!

As our globe continues to focus on virtual expansion, it is one of the fastest expanding sectors.

Blogging, on the other hand, is not for everyone.

This introduction piece may come as a shock to some, but my intention is that it will help you set realistic goals as you embark on a career in blogging! I hope that after reading these 10 blogging realities, you’ll be able to answer the question, “Should I create a blog?”

REASONS FOR BEGINNING A BLOG

There are numerous benefits to starting a blog. It has proven to be a really gratifying career for me. It has numerous advantages, including:

Freedom to pursue your dreams
Flexibility in your schedule
You can be your own boss.
There is no limit to your earning potential.
Selectivity in terms of where, when, how, and why you work
In 2021, there are five compelling reasons to start a blog.
You are, in a way, the “master of your fate” in addition to these enticing arguments. This can be both a positive and a negative experience.

The benefits and drawbacks of blogging, like any other traditional job, are subjective and personal. What one blogger considers a benefit, I might consider a disadvantage, and vice versa.

So, let’s have a look at 10 truths about how to become a lifestyle blogger, and I’ll leave it up to you to decide if this is the right career for you!

WHERE DO I START TO BECOME A LIFESTYLE BLOGGER?

Because this is the topic I’m familiar with, I’m going to focus on how to become a lifestyle blogger. There are a plethora of different blog niches to consider, including but not limited to:

Blogging (ironically, the “how to” blogging niche is a multibillion-dollar business.)
Web design with SEO
Social Media Photography in HTML
Cooking/Baking/Recipes
DIY Fashion & Beauty for the Home
Gardening
Organization\sParenting
Financial\sBudgeting
Cleaning
Lesson Preparation
Curriculum
Health\sExercise
Gluten-free, vegan, and other dietary restrictions may apply.
Living a natural/organic/clean lifestyle
Crafting\sEtc…..
Some of the facts I’ll explore next are universal, while others are unique to how to start a lifestyle blog.

TRUTH 1: YOU WILL GET OUT OF YOUR BUSINESS WHAT YOU PUT INTO IT.

Blogging as a company is a small one. There’s no getting around it.

If you’re serious about it, you should treat it like a little start-up. You’ll notice that I’ve described blogging as a profession, a business, and an industry. This is a mindset that every successful blogger should have.

How To Start A Blog With The Right Mindset

When it comes to learning how to start a blog with the right mindset I think that there are 3 factors ...

So, before you pick a name and go through the procedures to create a blog, you need to decide whether you want to establish a business or a pastime.

If you wish to start a new activity, go ahead! Recognize, though, that if you treat your blog like a hobby, it will always remain an online journal. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with that, but I’m betting if you’re reading this, you want more.

If you’re devoted to investing time and money in your company, it will have a lot better chance of succeeding. However, if the prospect of a long-term commitment to this full-time employment is not appealing to you, it’s time to reconsider your objectives.

Is it possible to run a profitable blog while working part-time? It is doable, but keep in mind that you will get out of your business what you put into it. I started out as a part-time blogger, but once I committed to it full-time, it became a job.

Please don’t consider this as a criticism or a warning! I can’t tell you how many people I’ve encountered who are unwilling to put forth the effort required to build a successful blog.

Finally, they believe they’ve squandered time and money on a project they shouldn’t have begun in the first place. That’s exactly what I don’t want you to do.

You CAN do it if you’re COMMITTED and EXCITED about it!

TRUTH 2: YOU MUST BE TECHNICAL.

It’s impossible to have a blog without also having a website. You can’t have a blog without the ability to manage a website, either!

Learning how to do the back-end work on a blog takes some time. Developing a website is a skill! It’s not something you’ll be able to pick up overnight. For many novice bloggers, the most difficult part of starting a blog is actually setting up their website.

The technical language goes on and on with domains, content management systems, hosts, themes, plug-ins, widgets, frameworks, site structure, categories, tags, SEO, and so on!

If you’re new to blogging or website building, chances are you have no idea what any of those terms represent. And that’s fine! To create a website, you don’t need to be a web developer.

My website was created utilizing an Etsy theme that I purchased. Because of the versatility that pre-made themes provide from professional web developers, the aesthetics of a blog are actually the easiest aspect. All of the other areas can appear to be insurmountable.

BLOG’S VERY BASIC TECHNICAL ELEMENTS
Rather than going into great depth about how to create a blog in this post, I’ll give a fast overview. This will assist you in knowing what to expect if you decide to go ahead with it. To start a blog, you’ll need to do the following:

Pick a name for your blog.
Obtain a domain with that name.
Make a decision on a content management system.
Examples:\sWordPress\sSquarespace
Joomla
Drupal
Select a host.
Examples:\sSiteGround
BlueHost
HostGator
DreamHost
Choose a framework, such as Genesis or Generate Press, if you’re using WordPress.
Pick a theme (provides website structure and aesthetics)
These are the most fundamental, bare-bones parts of creating a lifestyle blog, but they’re useful phrases to look into when you’re ready.

TRUTH 3: HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO BEGIN A BLOG?

In my perspective, this is a positive truth! Given that creating a lifestyle blog is practically the same as starting a small business, blogs are relatively inexpensive to start.

What is the price of starting a lifestyle blog?

In the first year, you may establish a lifestyle blog for $200-$1,000 on average (if you do not need technical help). You should budget an additional $500-$2,500 if you need to employ a web developer to design your website.

Additionally, if you need to purchase a computer or camera equipment, you can include those costs in your budget.

TRUTH 4: HOW DO YOU BECOME A PROFITABLE LIFESTYLE BLOGGER?
Are you interested in learning how to start a successful lifestyle blog? Everyone else feels the same way.

The truth is that there is no one-size-fits-all blogging formula! However, no matter what theme you choose, there are two major aspects of blogging that will help you become a successful blogger.

Creating High-Quality Content
Increasing the Number of Visitors to Your Blog
You won’t get any visitors to your site unless you have good content. You will not be able to make money until your blog receives attention. You have a hobby blog because you don’t have any money.

There are two key components to becoming a good blogger.
But what does it take to create high-quality material while also increasing blog traffic? Let’s just say it requires a lot of effort.

On their own, each of these aspects of lifestyle blogging can readily justify full-time hours:

generation of content
graphic design for social media photography
performing physical tasks for blog articles working with brands video production marketing search engine optimization
Promotional job, secretarial duties, financial administration, staff management, and so on.
The crux of truth number four is that blogging is about much more than just producing blog posts. In my Blogging Masterclass Course, I go through each of these topics in detail to help you understand what it takes to be a successful blogger.

The module for my Beginner Blogging Masterclass is now available! Make a point of visiting the information page to learn more about how to create a successful blog.

TRUTH #5: CONTENT RULES.

If you’ve ever looked into learning how to blog, you’ve definitely heard the phrase “content is king.” There are a plethora of lifestyle blog post ideas available, but selecting the right themes for your blog and generating high-quality material is crucial and more difficult than it appears.

The most important component of any blog is its content. People keep coming back to your blog because of the stuff you provide, both written and visual.

Your audience will not increase naturally unless you provide high-quality material. This makes it more difficult to create a full-time income because you’ll be continually developing new material, followed by a never-ending cycle of promotion and marketing.

This is unquestionably an instance when quality trumps quantity.

“How many times a week should I publish a blog post?” I’m asked all the time.

There is no such thing as a magic number.

Some bloggers publish five blog entries per week, while others only publish one. However, one well-written blog post with purpose and value can easily attract more visitors than five blog entries with no content.

SEARCHABLE CONTENT SHOULD BE WRITTEN
What’s more, how you say things is just as essential as what you’re saying.

It is critical that you create searchable material. People do not use fancy terms when searching on Google. Many bloggers strive to be succinct in their wording. They want to stand out and be different. However, here’s an example of why that won’t help you get more traffic.

Birthday Party with a Dinosaur Theme
Roar! is a terrible title. Let’s go on a Jurassic adventure.
How to Decorate for a Dinosaur Themed Boy’s Birthday Party is a good title.

If they’re seeking for birthday party ideas for their son, they’re not going to Google and searching for “Roar.” They will, however, look for “Dinosaur.” They could also look for “Boy’s birthday party theme” on the internet.

To cover a little more ground, layer in many related keywords.

People aren’t looking for something spectacular. They use simple keywords and, in most cases, terrible English!

While you can undoubtedly spice up the information in the body of your article with some quirkiness, you should keep the essential SEO factors simple.

HOW TO START A LIFESTYLE BLOG WITH SEO IS ESSENTIAL.
Have I discussed search engine optimization (SEO) yet? The truths 2, 4, and 5 all have one thing in common: SEO. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is critical for a successful blog. The top lifestyle blogs have excellent SEO, which drives organic traffic to their sites.

This is incredibly vital for a blog’s long-term survival, and it might take years to master. Then, just when you think you’ve mastered everything, Google’s algorithms change, and you have to re-learn everything!

This post can’t possibly cover everything there is to know about SEO. But stay tuned for more information on the subject in the near future!

TRUTH 6: YOU ARE NOT A BLOGGER, BUT A BRAND.

Women’s lifestyle blogs have risen to prominence as leaders in the development of personal brands.

When you hear the word “brand,” what comes to mind? Nike. Kohls. Loreal. Prada.

What’s more, guess what? Grace In My Space is a trademarked name. _______ is the name of your blog. You’ve established yourself as a brand.

A brand is simply a name that the audience recognizes:

What they’re all about.
What they have to give.
What will they gain from it?
And what makes them stand out from the crowd.
My business is a home decor, DIY, and lifestyle site based in Michigan that focuses on interior design, home styling, and budget-friendly projects for the everyday house. My mission is to constantly inspire Haven Makers while also encouraging women to love themselves and their homes with grace.

I work with women to help them love themselves and their homes. That is the name of my company.

It doesn’t limit me to only assisting them with their decorations. I can also assist them spiritually and mentally, as well as empower them to make positive changes in their lives. And I’m still staying true to my brand.

YOU ARE YOUR BRAND.
One of my favorite aspects about blogging is that your brand is YOU.

Your brand is made up of your values, ethics, passions, originality, and talents. Your audience associates you with the name of your blog. Especially once you’ve established a social following that sees you as more than a collection of text on a screen.

The importance of brand identity cannot be overstated. It can be fluid and evolve as your company grows, but you should have a core set of values and goals in place from the start.

This will influence how you operate your company, the tone of your material, and the relationships you form with your customers. In my intermediate/advanced Masterclass Course module, I go over all of the elements of brand identification as well as how to create a successful brand!

TRUTH 7: YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE A REASONABLE TIME COMMITMENT.

As you begin to discover how to create a lifestyle blog, keep in mind that it will take time. It took a long time, not a short period. It’s a full-time job, in other words.

Yes, some bloggers can make a living as part-time writers. However, keep in mind that what you put into your blog is what you will get out of it if you remember truth number one.

The more time you put in, the more money you will be able to make! So, what do you do with your time when blogging can easily become ten full-time jobs?

As a newbie, you should concentrate your efforts on getting your blog up and running with decent material.

Once you’ve established a good foundation for your blog, move on to social networking, and so on. It’s a never-ending cycle of tasks, but the more you practice them, the better you get at them.

WHEN WILL I BE ABLE TO MAKE MONEY BY BLOGGING?

Another area where the length of time required before a lifestyle blog produces an income appears to be unreasonable to new bloggers is the time required before a lifestyle blog earns a revenue. Is it possible to generate money as a blogger in your first year? Yes!

Is it going to be a full-time job? No!

How to make money from a lifestyle blog.
Since 2017, I’ve been blogging. In my first year of blogging, I worked extremely part-time on the site and made almost nothing. In my second year, I concentrated on Instagram, where I built my following, collaborated with 15 brands, and supplemented my income. I increased my blog income in my third year and worked with 54 businesses.

In 2020, I boosted my ad revenue on the blog by 30% and introduced my own products, allowing me to be more selective in working with businesses (I’m still working with around 50). I had a full-time job in years 3 and 4!

However, it’s vital to remember that everyone develops at a different rate, earns money in different ways, and has varying earning potential depending on how they use their time. That brings me to truth number eight.

TRUTH 8: FOR BEGINNERS, HOW TO MAKE MONEY WITH A BLOG

So, as you looked into starting a lifestyle blog, I’m sure one of your first concerns was, “How can I make money blogging?” As a beginning, you’ll probably make the majority of your money through affiliate marketing and ad revenue. Even if the numbers are little, everyone has to start somewhere!

So, how do bloggers get paid for their work? Bloggers generate money in a variety of methods in the long run!

Ad revenue generated by your blog’s content
Collaborations with brands and sponsored content
Promotion of affiliates
Owning and selling your own items
The more traffic you attract to your site, the more social media followers you have, and the more email subscribers you have, the more money you’ll make.

However, even if you don’t have a large social media following, you can still be a successful lifestyle blogger! Many successful bloggers do not have a significant number of social media followers. It’s nice to have, but it doesn’t make or break a blog.

There is certainly a lot of knowledge that goes into the mechanics of making money through blogging. All four of these money streams are extensively covered in the Profitability section of my intermediate/advanced Blogging Masterclass Course module!

TRUTH NUMBER NINE: SOCIAL MEDIA IS A MONSTER

That brings me to the truth. 9. As a lifestyle blogger, social media is a beast. Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest, TikTok, and Twitter are examples of social media platforms. YouTube is a separate category.

Each social media platform has its own set of challenges and time commitments. But it also necessitates a thorough examination of who you are and how you will manage a visible and public existence.

The primary purpose of social media is to be distinct and genuine. Those are drawn to people they believe they can trust. In today’s social world, a false influencer has no place.

As a result, I go down this topic in my course and encourage my students to dissect and examine who they are and how they will be able to navigate the audience criticism, demands, and harshness that comes with running a public-facing business.

With that stated, my social media presence has provided me with some of my most prized relationships and interactions!

Along the journey, there will be cheerleaders, supporters, and loyal friends who will encourage your inventiveness and enthusiasm for your passion. However, it is critical to be prepared for both extremes.

TRUTH NUMBER TEN: YOU WILL BURN OUT.

The final reality about how to start a lifestyle blog is that you will eventually burn out. Bloggers are prone to failure on a regular basis. Every year, it is estimated that 80-99 percent of blogs fail. Why? Most likely due to excessive expectations about how to establish and maintain a lifestyle blog!

That is why I felt compelled to write this article. I’m hoping that these ten realities of realistic blogging will help you understand what it takes to be a blogger. You’ll experience hurdles, just like any other new firm. You may be successful with realistic expectations, a lot of hard effort, and a passion for your blogging area.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO START A LIFESTYLE BLOG?

Now that you have a realistic perspective on blogging as a profession, I hope you’ll return to my blog frequently as I write a series of posts on how to start a lifestyle blog.

My lifestyle site concentrates on the home specialty, and it brings me great joy to assist women in making their homes a haven. This is accomplished through tutorials on home decor, DIY projects, food, outdoor ideas, and more!
