If you have dry skin, you are aware that the right skincare regimen can be the difference between an uncomfortable, radiant complexion and a flaky, perpetually tight-feeling face. skincare routine for dry skin. Skin Care Routines For Dry Skin You Wish You Knew Earlier

“Your face can’t adequately defend itself from the environment if you have dry skin. A dry skin’s inability to adequately retain moisture is hampered by the development of microscopic fractures in the outer layer “dermatologist Joshua Zeichner makes this claim.

Consequently, it’s crucial to choose the proper products if you have dry skin. Surprisingly, though, the ones you should pick can go against your inclinations. We consulted Zeichner and dermatologist Lian Mack, MD, for their professional advice on creating the ideal dry skincare regimen. For what they had to say, continue reading.

At Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, Joshua Zeichner, MD, is an associate professor of dermatology and the program director for clinical and cosmetic dermatological research.
GlamDerm was established by board-certified dermatologist Lian Mack, MD.

Your morning routine is crucial to preparing your skin for the day, especially if you have dry skin, according to Zeichner. You’ll also notice a recurring theme among the derms’ advice for the morning routine: cosmetics that keep moisture in while blocking harmful UV radiation and free radicals.

According to Zeichner, the purpose of your morning routine is to shield your skin from the elements. Mack continues, “People with dry skin types should try to hydrate and preserve their skin during their morning routines.”

A non-foaming cleanser should be used.

Starting the day with a fresh face is one aspect of our skincare regimens that hasn’t changed much since we were kids. The type of cleanser you select is important while washing your face. A moderate, non-foaming cleanser should be used to get your skin ready for days when it has a tendency to be dry, advises Mack. Choose one that is especially formulated with moisturizing components. According to Zeichner, “These solutions eliminate debris and oil without damaging the outer skin layer as certain foaming cleansers do.”

Zeichner likes two products from the drugstore that also happen to be his favorites: CeraVe’s Hydrating Face Wash ($13) and Cetaphil’s Gentle Skin Cleanser ($14).

Pack a Stronger Moisture Punch

Mack advises stepping up your moisture game even more after cleaning. For an additional boost of hydration, she advises applying hyaluronic acid on top of a vitamin C serum. A well-known humectant for the skin, hyaluronic acid attracts water to it and so lessens the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles.

Her decision? $10 for Catrice’s Hydro Plumping Serum, which “acts like a long glass of water for dry skin” and includes 1.5 percent hyaluronic acid.

A light moisturizer should be used.

While some people find that a moisturizing SPF provides sufficient hydration for the day, Mack advises wearing a moisturizer first if you have extremely dry skin.

When looking for moisturizers, Zeichner advises consumers to “search for light moisturizers that have chemicals that help soften rough cells, draw in hydration, and build a protective seal over the surface of the skin.” “Skin oil and skin hydration are two different issues,” he says. “In the heat, you might actually be excessively greasy but also low in hydration.”

The Hydro Boost Water Gel ($24) from Neutrogena is a favorite of Zeichner’s. Hyaluronic acid, like a sponge that draws in water to moisturize and firm the skin, is abundant in this product, he claims.

Additionally, you aren’t constrained to the options in the aisle of facial moisturizers. For example, Vaseline’s Intensive Care Unscented Advanced Repair Lotion ($8), which “uses triple-purified petrolatum to preserve the skin, but in a lotion that is so light that it won’t weigh the skin down,” is one option Zeichner suggests if you already have body moisturizers at home.

Mack advises drinking at least 64 ounces of water each day, using your skincare products right away after taking a shower or bath (“to assist lock in moisture”), and using a humidifier while you sleep.

Use SPF to protect yourself.

SPF should be applied to all skin types, including dry skin. According to Zeichner, “UV radiation and pollution produce free radical damage that results in accelerated aging.”

Look for sunscreens that, of course, aid in the skin’s ability to retain moisture if you have dry skin. If you have dry skin, seek for a moisturizer/sunscreen combo rather than using a straight sunscreen for the beach, advises Zeichner.

Look for an SPF of at least 30 (makeup with SPF won’t cut it) and reapply every two hours to ensure you are getting adequate coverage. Some of our favorites are Supergoop’s Glow Screen ($36), which contains hyaluronic acid along with niacinamide, a brightener, and vitamin B5, as well as Black Girl Sunscreen ($19), which is made with ingredients like avocado and jojoba (both of which have benefits for hydration).

The Day Should End With a Clean Slate (and Even More Moisture)

According to Mack, the first step in both your morning and evening routines should be a moisturizing foamy cleanser.

Apply moisturizing serums and topicals that can help you further seal in moisture after cleansing, but stay away from any that might undo your work. Avoid using vitamin A derivatives like retinoids and retinol if someone is excessively dry instead using your hyaluronic acid serum, she advises. “Add a hydrating moisturizer to that.” Mack enjoys the Toleraine Double Repair Face Moisturizer ($20) by LaRoche Posay.

Don’t exfoliate too much. Exfoliating could be your first instinct if you notice flaky skin, but Zeichner advises getting your skin the nourishment it requires. Use a gentle exfoliator, such as Tatcha’s Rice Enzyme Powder ($65), if you must exfoliate. In the end, what works for you will depend on the kind of dryness you’re feeling.

Utilize masks for therapeutic purposes

Relax and pamper both your skin and yourself. Another weapon in your armory for supple, radiant skin is a mask. The SkinCeuticals Biocellulose Restorative Masque ($120), which may be used twice a week as a replenishing treatment, is a favorite of Mack’s. She claims that it helps to moisturize and calm dry skin.
